Agnet barracks

The Agnetenkaserne was a barracks in Trier and was located in the former Agnetenkloster . It was located in the city center, at the current location of the Trier City Archives (Weberbach).

history

Since 1871 the III. Battalion of the 7th Rhenish Infantry Regiment No. 69 in this barracks. Other parts of the regiment were deployed in the palace , Maximin and Goebenkaserne . Since Trier was a front-line town, several military hospitals were operated there, and Reserve Hospital II was located in the Agnetenkaserne.In 1919, apartments were set up there by the city administration to alleviate the housing shortage in Trier. On August 14, 1944, an incendiary attack resulted in the loss of the former monastery. The remains of the ruins were laid down in 1945, the former portal of the monastery building was opposite the Church of Our Ladyerected again (today entrance to the cathedral information). The city archive of Trier and a large bus parking lot are located on the site of the former monastery.
