Friedrich Wilhelm von Dunker (born May 7, 1791 in Soldau , † November 18, 1868 in Glogau ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

He was the son of Friedrich Wilhelm von Dunker (1753-1830) and his wife Charlotte Henriette, née Kasten (1765-1823). His father was a Prussian lieutenant colonel a. D. , most recently with the 2nd Division of the General War Department and postmaster in Opole .

Military career

On February 1, 1802, Dunker was employed as a Junker in the “von Glaser” hussar regiment of the Prussian Army . Due to his age, he did not move out during the mobilization against Napoleon in 1805 and was assigned to the regiment's depot in 1806. At the end of April 1807 he was promoted to second lieutenant in the Hussar Brigade "von Zieten" and after the Peace of Tilsit at the beginning of December 1807 he joined the Lower Silesian Hussar Regiment. In mid-March 1809 Dunker was first aggregated to the 1st Silesian Hussar Regiment and at the end of August 1809 to the Silesian Uhlan Regiment . With a patent dated April 25, 1807, he was transferred to the Brandenburg Uhlan Regiment on February 2, 1810 . In 1812 Dunker took part on the side of France with his regiment during the Russian campaign in the fighting at Vitebsk , Borodino , Rudina and Tarutino . For his behavior, Dunker was awarded the Cross of the Legion of Honor and the order Pour le Mérite . While retreating, he was taken prisoner in southern Russia. After his release he took part in the battles on the Katzbach , Leipzig , Brienne , Arcis-sur-Aube and Paris during the wars of liberation . Awarded the Order of Saint Anne II. Class, Dunker was commanded to serve with Colonel La Roche-Starkenfels on October 9, 1814, when he was promoted to staff officer . On April 20, 1815, he was aggregated into the Guard Uhlan Regiment and on June 8, 1815, he was transferred to the 2nd Guard Cavalry Brigade as Rittmeister and adjutant . Four months later he was transferred to the adjutantage and was employed as an adjutant in the guard cavalry. Left in this position, Dunker was promoted to major on March 30, 1818 and aggregated to the Guard Cuirassier Regiment . From October 28, 1829 to June 5, 1831 he served as an adjutant at the General Command of the Guard Corps and was then assigned to lead the 4th Uhlan Regiment . On February 10, 1832, Dunker was appointed regiment commander and on March 30, 1832, transferred to the 2nd Guard Uhlan Regiment in the same position . In this position he rose on March 30, 1834 to lieutenant colonel and two years later to colonel . On March 30, 1840 he was appointed commander of the 9th Cavalry Brigade in Glogau and promoted to major general on April 7, 1842 . As such, Dunker directed the maneuvers of the 9th Division in the fall of 1843 . During the riots in Posen , Dunker was in command of a detachment of Prussian troops between the Warthe and Bober . On April 13, 1848 he was transferred to Trier as commander of the 16th division . In September of the same year, Dunker, as the leader of an observation corps, was ordered to march to Mannheim and maintain law and order in the Hesse and Baden region. In addition to his units, he was assigned three Nassau battalions and a battery . On May 8, 1849 Dunker became lieutenant general. During the absence of General von Hirschfeld he acted as the deputy commanding general of the VIII Army Corps in Koblenz . In this capacity, Dunker was awarded the star for the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd Class with Oak Leaves, on January 15, 1850 . Due to his health, he submitted his departure , which Dunker was approved on June 13, 1850 with the statutory pension .

On the occasion of the mobilization in November 1850 he became the commanding general of the deputy general command of the III. Army Corps until Dunker was released from this position in mid-January 1851. On January 9, 1862, he was awarded the crown of the Order Pour le Mérite for his 50 years of ownership.

Dunker had married Karoline Gaffron (1799-1880) on June 17, 1832 in the Berlin garrison church . She was the daughter of Karl Gaffron, an inspector at the building academy .
