German defensive positions on the Western Front, 1918

The Hermann position was a defensive position of the German troops on the western front during the First World War . At the beginning of September 1918 doubts about the stability of the Siegfried line grew. Therefore one began with the expansion of a rear catchment position, the so-called "Hermann position". This defensive position on the western front began north of Ghent on the coast, followed the Leie and Scheldt rivers at Eeklo and passed into the Hunding position at Marle .
