The Aisne [ ɛn ] is a river in France , in the north of the country, that runs through the Grand Est and Hauts-de-France regions.

geography

The Aisne flows mainly to the west

It rises in the Argonne massif, in the municipality of Rembercourt-Sommaisne and generally drains in a westerly direction. After around 356 kilometers, the Aisne joins the Oise at Compiègne . The confluence with the shorter Oise is 99.15 km before its confluence with the Seine. Since the Aisne, together with the Aire, which is longer at the confluence, has a flow path of 362 km, this results in a longest flow path of 460 km for the Oise system.
