geography

The place is on the banks of the Aisne River . A shipping canal runs parallel to the river , which is exactly where it changes its name. To the west it is called Canal latéral à l'Aisne and leads to the greater Paris area , to the east it is called Canal des Ardennes and continues through the Ardennes to Belgium .
