Saint-Jean-aux-Bois is a French commune with 107 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Ardennes department in the Grand Est region (before 2016: Champagne-Ardenne ); it belongs to the arrondissement of Rethel , to the canton of Signy-l'Abbaye (until 2015: canton of Chaumont-Porcien ) and to the community association Crêtes Préardennaises .
geography
The community is bounded to the southeast by the Malacquise River . Saint-Jean-aux-Bois is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Rocquigny in the west, Le Fréty in the northwest, La Férée in the north, Maranwez in the east, Montmeillant in the southeast and La Romagne in the south.
history
During the French Revolution , the place was temporarily named Libre-Bois .
The community was from December 1885 until its closure in 1953 on the railway line from Hirson to Amagne - Lucquy .
