Château-Porcien is a French commune with 1,367 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Ardennes department in the Grand Est region . It belongs to the Arrondissement of Rethel and the canton of Château-Porcien . The inhabitants are called Castelporciniens .

geography

Château-Porcien lies on the banks of the Aisne River and on the parallel Canal des Ardennes , into which the Vaux flows. Château-Porcien is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Saint-Fergeux in the north and north-west, Son in the north and north-east, Écly in the east and north-east, Barby in the east, Taizy and Avançon in the south, Blanzy-la-Salonnaise in the south-west and Herpy-l ' Arlésienne and Condé-lès-Herpy to the west.

history

Château-Porcien was the royal seat and the capital of the county of Porcéan . The county was eventually sold to the House of Valois. Today the title of "Prince of Château-Porcien" is carried by the Prince of Monaco.
