The Saulces ( French: Ruisseau de Saulces ) is a river in France that runs in the Ardennes department in the Grand Est region . It rises in the local area of Faissault , generally drains to the southwest and after around 30 kilometers flows into the municipality of Rethel as a right tributary into the Aisne , which is accompanied here on the other side of the river by the Canal des Ardennes . The Saulces crosses the A34 motorway in its upper reaches and was laid underground during construction in this section. In the section of its mouth, too, when crossing the small town of Rethel, it largely disappears underground.
