Franz Justus Julius Trenk von Trenk since 1887 (born December 31, 1825 in Jülich , † February 4, 1897 in Görlitz ) was a Prussian lieutenant general and commander of the 16th division .

Life

Julius was the son of the Proviantsamts-Inspector Wilhelm Trenk (1795-1835) and his wife Margarete, née Lisse (1803-1870).

Military career

After attending the grammar school in Koblenz , the community school in Crossen (Oder) and the grammar school in Wetzlar , Trenk joined the 38th Infantry Regiment (6th Reserve Regiment) of the Prussian Army in Glatz on October 9, 1843 as a musketeer . He was promoted to secondary lieutenant by mid-July 1846 and worked as a teacher at the United Divisional School of the 15th and 16th Divisions from late September 1853 to late June 1859 . Trenk rose to prime lieutenant in mid-December 1857 and was commanded to Trier on July 1, 1859 as adjutant of the 16th division . During this command promoted to captain , Trenk returned to service on April 22, 1862 with the appointment of company commander in the 1st Upper Silesian Infantry Regiment No. 22 . In the war against Austria he led his company in the battle of Königgrätz in 1866 .

After the war, on October 30, 1866, he was transferred as a major to the newly established Infantry Regiment No. 84 in Flensburg and a year later he became commander of the Fusilier battalion stationed in Schleswig . During the war against France in 1870/71 he took part in the battles at Colombey , Gravelotte , Noisseville and Le Mans as well as the siege of Metz .

Awarded both classes of the Iron Cross , Trenk was promoted to lieutenant colonel on August 18, 1871, after the peace treaty , and on August 16, 1873, under position à la suite, was given the command of the 7th East Prussian Infantry Regiment No. 44 in Graudenz . On September 2, 1873 he was promoted to colonel and a day later was appointed regimental commander. From December 11, 1879 to December 5, 1883 he was major general in command of the 32nd Infantry Brigade in Trier. Then Trenk rose to lieutenant general and commander of the superior 16th division and received on March 8, 1887 the star for the Order of the Red Eagle with Oak Leaves. In approval of his leave request Trenk was on March 8, 1887. Pension for disposition made and in recognition of his loyal and good services in the wars in peace by Kaiser Wilhelm I to the hereditary Prussian nobility raised .

He died in Görlitz on February 4, 1897.

Trenk married Marie Hoseus (1845-1905) in Breslau on July 18, 1864. The couple had several children:
