The Replacement Division was a major unit of the Bavarian army in the First World War .

Reclassification during the war

The 5th Mixed Replacement Brigade was transferred to the 30th Reserve Division on August 17, 1914 . On October 3, 1914, the two remaining brigades were restructured and reclassified into Replacement Regiment 1 (1st mixed replacement brigade) and Replacement Regiment 3 (9th mixed replacement brigade). The two regiments were transferred to the "Rekowski Division" , which later became the 39th Reserve Division . On November 22, 1914, the 59th Replacement Infantry Brigade (later 59th Landwehr Infantry Brigade) was subordinated to the division as a non-Bavarian unit; however, this brigade was given back to the newly established 199th Infantry Division on January 15, 1917 . Only the 3rd Reserve Infantry Brigade, set up at the end of 1914, remained with the association .

history

The division was set up with the mobilization on August 2, 1914 and initially deployed on the Western Front. Commander at this time was General of the Infantry Eugen Ritter von Benzino . In 1916 the association took part in the Battle of Verdun , in 1917 in the Battle of the Aisne and was relocated to the Eastern Front in Romania . After the armistice there , the division was relocated to the western front and fought in 1918 as part of the Meuse-Argonne offensive . There it was dissolved on October 6, 1918.

It was classified as third class by the Allied Enlightenment .
