The Ailette is a river in France that runs in the Aisne department in the Hauts-de-France region . It rises in the municipality of Sainte-Croix and generally drains in a west to north-west direction. At Monampteuil the Ailette reaches the Canal de l'Oise à l'Aisne , endows it with water in the Monampteuil basin and then runs a short distance north of the canal. In the estuary section, the river swings to the southwest, crosses under the canal and, after a total of 59 kilometers below Manicamp, flows into the Oise as a left tributary .
