Guny Town Hall (Mairie)

Guny is a French municipality with 423 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Aisne in the region of Hauts-de-France (before 2016: Picardy ); it belongs to the arrondissement of Laon and the canton of Vic-sur-Aisne .

geography

Guny is bordered by the Ailette and the Canal de l'Oise à l'Aisne . Guny is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Champs in the north and north-east, Pont-Saint-Mard in the east and south-east, Épagny in the south-west and Trosly-Loire in the west.

history

In 858, Charles the Bald ceded the village to Notre-Dame de Soissons Abbey .

During the First World War , the Guny was devastated during the Battle of the Ailette from August 27 to September 28, 1918. The heavily damaged church of Saint-Georges was restored in 1923.

During the Second World War , Guny and its surroundings were again the scene of fighting at the Ailette in 1940.
