Chivy-lès-Étouvelles is a French municipality with 510 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Aisne in the region of Hauts-de-France (before 2016 Picardy ). It belongs to the arrondissement of Laon and the canton of Laon-2 (until 2015 Laon-Sud ).

Chivy-lès-Étouvelles is surrounded by the prefecture of Laon in the northeast and east and the neighboring municipalities of Nouvion-le-Vineux in the southeast, Étouvelles in the south and the municipalities of Mons-en-Laonnois and Vaucelles-et-Beffecourt in the canton of Laon-1 West.

history

On March 9 and 10, 1814, Chivy-lès-Etouvelles was the scene of hostilities in the battle of Laon between the French army under Napoleon Bonaparte and the Prussian army under Gebhard Leberecht von Blücher .

During the First World War , the village was occupied by the Germans from September 2, 1914 to October 13, 1918. In view of the suffering of the population in the four years of occupation and the damage to buildings, the place was awarded the Croix de Guerre 1914-1918 on October 17, 1920 .
