Braye-en-Laonnois is a French municipality with 203 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Aisne in the region of Hauts-de-France . It belongs to the arrondissement of Laon , which gave the whole area the name Laonnois , to the canton of Guignicourt and to the municipality of Chemin des Dames .

The community is located on the southern slope of the Chemin des Dames ridge . The south portal of the tunnel on the Oise-Aisne Canal is located near the village .
history
Because of its strategically exposed location, the area of the Chemin des Dames has repeatedly been the scene of armed conflicts. During the Napoleonic Wars there was a losing battle in 1814. Around 100 years later, the Battle of the Aisne took place in World War I. The impregnable ridge of Chemin des Dames was one of the most fiercely contested positions at the time. The battle on the Aisne claimed 160,000 French and 80,000 German victims.

Buildings
The since the Middle Ages operated quarry Froidmont stands since 1998 as a monument historique under monument protection and served in World War I as a base for soldiers. Just like the quarry workers of the 18th and 19th centuries, the soldiers left reliefs and graffiti on the walls.
