Rościno ( German  Rostin ) is a village in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship in Poland . It belongs to the municipality of Białogard ( Belgard ) in the powiat Białogardzki .

Geographical location

Rościno is five kilometers west of Białogard on a side road that branches off from Voivodship Road 163 in the middle between Białogard and Karlino ( Körlin ). The southern boundary is formed by the Parsęta (German Persante ), the northwest of the municipality borders on the city of Karlino.

Local history

Rostin was first mentioned in a document in the 17th century. A memorable date was June 24th ( St. John's Day ) 1847 when a major fire destroyed half of the village.

In 1867, 333 residents lived in the farming village (including the Uhlenburg residential area), whose families consisted of 16 farmers, two Kossäts and two Büdners . The high-yield meadows on the Persante offered good site conditions, especially for livestock farming.

In 1936 Rostin became known far beyond the borders of Germany: through the construction of the "first underwater power station in the world". The course of the Persante had to be straightened from Belgard to Rostin in order to increase the flow speed. However, the great success of the work did not materialize.

In 1939 there were 229 inhabitants in 52 households in Rostin, which comprised an area of 1,135.7 hectares.

Until 1945 the village belonged to the district of Belgard (Persante) and together with Alt Lülfitz , Neu Lülfitz and Redlin formed the Lülfitz office. The village was officially connected to Roggow . The district court was in Belgard .

The last mayor before 1945 was Albert Trapp.

On March 3, 1945 Rostin was occupied by Soviet troops . The expulsion of the resident population began in the summer of 1945. Today, the place under the name Rościno belongs to the Polish rural community Białogard.
