Dębczyno ( German  Denzin ) is a village in the Polish West Pomeranian Voivodeship . It belongs to the Gmina Białogard (municipality of Belgard) in the powiat Białogardzki (Belgarder district) .

Geographical location and transport links

Dębczyno is located in Western Pomerania , three kilometers southeast of Białogard on a side road to Byszyno (Boissin) at the mouth of the Mogilica (Muglitz) in the Persante . The train station is Białogard on the Stargard Szczeciński – Gdańsk railway line .

history

During excavations in Denzin in 1936 and 1937, urns from the pre-Roman Iron Age were found, which testify to a settlement in the region in pre- and early Germanic times.

Of this place was also from the wielbark culture developed Denziner culture (also Denzinger group; Polish: Dębczyn group) named in Pomerania, the 3rd is dated to the 6th century AD to the time and an area populated, the roughly corresponds to northern Poland between Danzig Bay in the east and the lower reaches of the Oder in the west.

The place Denzin was first documented as Densin in 1289. Inhabitants from East Westphalia , such as the Behling family from Denzin, are proven.

Denzin was a consistently laid out, medium-sized street village . For the population, who mostly worked in agriculture, the markets in Belgard - weekly, cattle and annual markets - were a good outlet.

When the small railway line No. 113v from Belgard to Schwellin (Köslin district) was built in 1905 , the line was supposed to lead via Denzin and Roggow. But the Denziner refused: “Dei foehrn us de Köh dod!” Although the Denziner had given up considerable space for the construction of the track, the cows argument was probably more important. The railway line was moved north of Reichsbahn line No. 111n Belgard - Neustettin . But the small train company did not want to do without a dash of irony: a stop that was now 1.5 kilometers from Denzin and across the Persante in the Belgarder urban area on Bullenberg was called Denzin . So the Denziner remained connected to the small train, although hardly a Denziner will have boarded the station.

In 1939, 324 people lived in the 536.1 hectare community.

Denzin formed a rural community in the district of Belgard (Persante) in the Prussian province of Pomerania until 1945 . The Fuchskaten residential area also belonged to the community . The community formed the district of Roggow with Roggow and Vorwerk . The last German mayor was Willi Lübke.

Towards the end of the Second World War , Red Army troops occupied the village on March 7, 1945 . Denzin was then renamed, together with the whole of Western Pomerania, part of Poland and Dębczyno . The expulsion of the German residents began in autumn 1945. Today the village is part of the rural community of Białogard .

church

Denzin was parish until 1945 in the parish of the Marienkirche Belgard and was in the parish of Belgard of the ecclesiastical province of Pomerania of the Protestant Church of the Old Prussian Union . Today Dębczyno belongs to the parish Koszalin (Köslin) in the diocese of Pomerania-Greater Poland of the Polish Evangelical-Augsburg Church .

school

There was a single-class elementary school in Denzin until 1945.
