The Szczecinek – Kołobrzeg railway is a single-track electrified main line in the Polish Zachodniopomorskie (West Pomerania) voivodeship . It connects the cities of Szczecinek (Neustettin), Białogard (Belgard) and Kołobrzeg (Kolberg) and thus also connects the city of Kołobrzeg to large cities such as Szczecin (Stettin), Poznań (Poznan) or Gdańsk (Danzig) The kilometer-long railway is operated by the Polish State Railways (PKP) under route number 404.

course

The train begins at the Szczecinek crossing station, where there is a connection to the Piła – Ustka and Chojnice – Runowo Pomorskie lines . It runs predominantly towards the northwest. In Grzmiąca (Gramenz) the disused railways from Kostrzyn (Küstrin) and Korzybie (Zollbrück) meet the line. About 40 kilometers further is Białogard, the main railway intermediate station with a connection to the Stargard Szczeciński – Gdańsk line . After Białogard it goes about 30 kilometers to the terminal station Kołobrzeg. The station is also a transfer point to the Koszalin – Goleniów line .

history

Kołobrzeg railway station

The route consists of two historical sections. The older one from Belgard to Kolberg was opened to traffic on June 1, 1859 by the Berlin-Stettiner Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft (BSTE) together with the Stargard – Köslin railway . The second section between Neustettin and Belgard was put into operation on November 15, 1878 by the Prussian State Railways as part of the Eastern Railway Network .

Both companies initially operated their railways independently of one another until the BStE was taken over by the Prussian State Railways in 1880, which ran the route under a uniform timetable . From 1920, the Deutsche Reichsbahn took over the operation as the successor to the Prussian State Railways. It led the connection under the course book route 111n between Kolberg, Belgard, Neustettin and Schneidemühl ( Piła ).

After the Second World War , Pomerania became part of the Polish state. The Polish State Railways took over the operation of the railway and continued it under number 404. In 1988 and 1989, the PKP electrified the entire length of the line.

business

The train is served in long-distance as well as regional traffic. In the outskirts of the day, a PKP Intercity runs from Poznań to Kołobrzeg. In regional traffic there are several connections with direct connections to Słupsk (Stolp), Poznań, Kraków (Cracow) and Katowice (Kattowitz).
