Tsatthoggua was a German black metal band from Marl that took on a BDSM image , which is not typical for the genre . The band name is borrowed from the being Tsathoggua from the Cthulhu myth.

Band history

1989 was founded in Marl, North Rhine-Westphalia , under the name Dissection . The musicians, who only appeared under pseudonyms, published several demo recordings in very small editions. After Dissection from Sweden became known, the name was changed to Tsatthoggua. The name was borrowed from a novel by HP Lovecraft .

Their 1995 demo Siegeswille secured them a record deal with the French label Osmose Productions . Her debut album Hosanna Bizarre was released there in 1996 . A guest singer named Nicole Szumiga was involved in the album. The fast and uncompromising Black Metal in the style of Blasphemy and Impaled Nazarene surprised with the image of the band, which was genre-untypical for BDSM. The album cover shows a masked man holding a woman in a white dress and with corpsepaint on a bondage necklace . On the back, the scenery is the other way around. The lyrics, on the other hand, contain typical Black Metal praise to Satan and criticism of Christianity . Some shows in the opening act of Atrocity and Therion increased the awareness of the formation. In 1997 they toured with Marduk and Sear Bliss through Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, Belgium and Switzerland. In contrast to the corpse paint, which they used to use for performances, the musicians appeared in leather and gas masks .

In 1998 the second album Trans Cunt Whip was released , which was mixed by Peter Tägtgren in the Abyss studios. In contrast to the debut, there were also texts on sado-masochistic topics. After the EP German Black Metal (1999) the group broke up. An album entitled Extazia was due to appear on Necropolis Records in 2000 , but has remained unreleased to date. The group's last appearance took place on December 30, 1999 in Berlin. Sigh and Dies Ater also played at this gig .

Only "Perverted Pete" was also active in the bands Eternal Dirge and Ninnghizhidda and Markus Aust in Ninnghizhidda. The rest of the band members no longer appeared.
