Ninnghizhidda was a German dark metal band from Recklinghausen , which was active from 1997 to 2003.
Band history
In 1997 Patrick Kalla (vocals / guitar / bass) from Eternal Dirge and Tsatthoggua , Sascha Risseler (keyboards, "Dr. Faustus") from Eternal Dirge and Rene Bogdanski (guitar) from Crestfallen founded the group Ninnghizhidda. The name is based on HP Lovecraft's Cthulhu myth , where it describes a serpentine deity. With a drummer with the pseudonym "Kerberos" they worked on the first songs, which were released on the demo The Horned Serpent (1997). After various offers from German independent labels , the decision was made to sign with Invasion Records .
While working on the debut album Blasphemy Kerberos got out, so that the drummer friend Lightning Bolt from Tsatthoggua was recruited for some of the songs . Shortly before a tour, a session drummer was finally found, but a few months later he was replaced by Kreator drummer Jürgen "Ventor" Reil. With Zagan ( Black Messiah ) a new bassist / singer joined. When Invasion Records went bankrupt in 1998, they released the self-financed EP Mistress of the Night , which earned them a record deal with Displeased Records . Ninnghizhidda was also featured on the seventh Unheard sampler of Rock-Hard magazine.
Shortly afterwards the line-up broke up again, so that for the 2002 album Demigod Patrick Kalla and Rene Bogdanksi were supported by Sascha George (keyboards) and Markus Aust. The album received positive reviews from Rock Hard magazine , among others . In 2003 the group broke up due to personal problems, their debut album was re-released in the same year on Displeased Records.
Sascha George joined Insignium , while Sascha Risseler was later active in the gothic metal band Stormgarde . Rene Bogdanski has been part of The Very End group since 2004 , together with Björn Gooßes from Night in Gales .
Music genre
Ninnghizhidda used what is now known as Dark Metal. In the context of the black metal boom that occurred in the 1990s , the group was marketed as a black metal band by Invasion Records. In fact, the group is more oriented towards Death Metal , but has some connections to Symphonic Black Metal due to the high use of keyboards. The band themselves described their style of music as Extreme Metal . The texts are anti-religious and deal "with dark desires, temptations and carnal lust on a kind of demonic, abysmal level".
