The Kolberger Kleinbahn (KKB) was a meter- gauge narrow - gauge railway in Pomerania .

History and route network

A former KKB passenger car

In 1892 the Prussian House of Representatives passed the law on small railways and private connecting railways , which came into force on July 28th. This included the following definition: “Small railways are those railways serving public transport which, because of their minor importance for general rail traffic, are not subject to the law on railway companies. In particular, small railways are generally those railways that mainly provide local traffic within a municipality or neighboring municipal districts. ”This triggered a number of private small railways, including the KKB.

In 1894 the Kolberger Kleinbahn-AG was founded in Kolberg (today: Kołobrzeg ); However, the AG was initially based in Groß Jestin ( Gościno ). It was not until 1920 that he was in Kolberg.

On June 1, 1895, the first section of the line built by Lenz Co. was put into operation. He connected the stations Regenwalde ( Resko ) and Roman ( Rymań ) with each other. The Roman - Kolberg and Groß Jestin - Stolzenberg ( Sławoborze ) routes were also inaugurated in 1895 .

In 1899 a connection to the Greifenberger Kleinbahn further west was established. However, this had a track width of 750 millimeters, so that initially the goods had to be reloaded by hand at the Dummadel ( Tąpadły ) junction . In 1901 the gauge of the Greifenberger Kleinbahn was adjusted.

In 1907 a new junction was added with the Regenwalder Kleinbahn . Whereas the Kolberger Kleinbahn trains had previously run to Regenwalde Süd station, passengers could now change at the Regenwalde Nord shared station. Only freight trains of the Kolberger Kleinbahn drove to Regenwalde Süd until 1912.

In 1909 the network was extended by an eight-kilometer section from Groß Jestin to Groß Pobloth . This section of the route was extended to Körlin in 1915 . In the same year the branch line Lübchow - Lustebuhr was laid.

In order to remain competitive, bus routes were also set up in the 1920s. A Lanz Bulldog and three two-way tippers were also purchased.

The rail network was expanded in the post-war period. In 1951 a connection between Leppin ( Lepino ) and Rarfin ( Rarwino ) was established. This created a connection to the Köslin-Bublitz-Belgarder Kleinbahn . This was the greatest expansion of the rail network; it finally covered a distance of about 82.5 kilometers.

In the 1960s, the Kolberg – Groß Jestin and Groß Jestin – Körlin ( Karlino ) sections were shut down and dismantled. The rest of the network was retained, but was ultimately used almost exclusively for transfer trips to workshops.

Operations management

Until 1910, the Lenz & Co. company was in charge of the management of the Pomeranian Kleinbahnen, then this was transferred to the Provincial Association of Pomerania. In 1920 the small railway department of the provincial association was dissolved. The Kolberger Kleinbahn now belonged to the Association of Small Railways from the Pomerania. In 1937 there was another change to the Provincial Association of Pomerania. In 1940 management was finally transferred to the Pomeranian State Railways . This change was accompanied by a change in the numbering system in 1943, which, however, did not affect the vehicle lettering.

In March 1945 the area of the Kolberger Kleinbahn was taken and the train traffic came to a standstill. After the Second World War he was resumed under the leadership of the PKP .

Locomotives

A total of 19  steam locomotives were in use at the KKB. Of the six Vulcan locomotives (1360, 1361, 1362, 1380, 1381, 1382) of the Lenz type i from the founding year 1894, probably none have survived. Two other Vulcans (1777, 1778) of the same type can no longer be detected either. Of the Mallet locomotives of type ii purchased later , an O&K from 1907 (2601) passed into the possession of the Heeresfeldbahnen and is lost, as are two Hanomag locomotives from 1911/12 (6100, 6773). The Hanomag 6419 of the same type from 1911 was used by the PKP until June 1957, the triple-coupled Henschel 5972 from 1902 even until 1961. The whereabouts of the Hohenzollern 1340 from 1900 is unknown; in 1945 it was still owned by the PKP. Nothing is known about the fate of the Borsig 12249 from 1930 either. Two Vulcan locomotives from the 1920s ( 3865 and 3848) type 1'C1 'and 1'D1' were used until 1974; the latter is in the Gryfice Narrow Gauge Railway Museum . The type I of 1914 (Vulcan 2996) to 1969 in use, another (Vulcan 2997) was seems to have been preserved. In 1973 it became the property of the Warsaw Railway Museum .

dare

The inside of the car

A former passenger car of the Kolberger Kleinbahn is used as DEV 17 at DEV . It probably dates from 1913 or 1914, was provided with a different car body at the PKP and was rebuilt by the DEV with a car body according to historical plans. In doing so, concessions were made to the requirements of accessibility , because no historical substance was impaired. The car, which is equipped with two lifts, is carried on most of the DEV's steam locomotive trains.
