Gościno [ ɡɔɕˈt͡ɕinɔ ] ( German  Groß Jestin ) is a town in the powiat Kołobrzeski in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship . The Gmina Gościno is a small town building , which has its headquarters in Gościno.

Geographical location

The village is located in Western Pomerania , about fourteen kilometers southeast of Kołobrzeg ( Kolberg ) and one hundred kilometers northeast of Szczecin .

The first documentary mention of Great Jestin comes from the year 1238. At that time, Pope Gregory IX confirmed . the Order of St. John the possession of three religious houses, which a deceased Pomeranian prince Ratibor and his son Bogislaw had given to the order. Among the religious houses it was in the place called here "Gostino". The prince is in the judgment of the historian Martin Wehrmann to I. Ratibor and his son Bogislaw of Schlawe , but other assignments can be considered.

In the 19th century the village was a domain of the city of Kolberg in Western Pomerania , which it leased. The Kolberg treasury bought the village from the abbot of Doberan Monastery in the 14th century . Around 1780 there were 16 farms on the domain.

Until the end of the Second World War , Groß Jestin belonged to the Kolberg-Körlin district in the Prussian province of Pomerania . In addition to Groß Jestin, the community Groß Jestin included the residential areas Gut Groß Jestin , Johannisberg , Karlshof , Kleinbahnhof Groß Jestin , Koppelbruch , Kämitz , Kämitzfeld , Luban , Moltow , Plauenthin , Schneidemühle Eulenberg , Seeberge , Seehof and Vorwerk Groß Jestin .

In May 1945 the region was occupied by the Red Army . Subsequently, the region was placed under Polish administration together with the whole of Western Pomerania. The German population was expelled in the years that followed .

On January 1, 2011 Gościno received city status.

Gościno owns one of the largest forestry companies in Poland. There are also two pharmacies, three bakeries and a large milk processing plant ( Arla Foods ) as well as the Hania restaurant-bar .

The parish church of Great Jestin (today dedicated to the Polish martyr Andreas Bobola ) should be mentioned here in the first place . It is a neo-Gothic stone building from 1865, which was built on the foundations of an earlier wooden village church. The interior has a chalice-shaped baptismal font from the 12th / 13th centuries. Century adorned. The baptismal font is one of the rarest sacred monuments in all of West Pomerania.

Road traffic

The provincial road 162 , which leads from Kołobrzeg via Świdwin (Schivelbein) to Drawsko Pomorskie (Dramburg), runs through the municipality in a north-south direction . In the southern area of ​​the municipality it crosses Landesstraße 6 (former German Reichsstraße 2 , today also Europastraße 28 ), which extends from Stettin to Gdansk .

Within the municipality, a district road (droga powiatowa) connects to the town of Karlino (Körlin) near Białogard (Belgard (Persante)).

The Gmina Gościno is not directly connected to the Polish State Railways network. The nearest train stations are in Kołobrzeg and Karlino.

Before 1945 several lines of the Kolberger Kleinbahn ran through what is now the municipality . From 1895, small railroad trains ran from the center of Groß Jestin to Kolberg and to Roman (now in Polish: Rymań), and also to Stolzenberg (Sławoborze). In 1909 a small railway line was built to Groß Pobloth (Poblocie Wielki), which was extended to Karlino in 1915.
