Joachim Schardin

Joachim Schardin (* 1934 in Groß Jestin ; † September 15, 1996 in Dresden ) was a German watchmaker and art historian .

Life

Schardin came from West Pomerania. After graduating from high school, he completed an apprenticeship as a watchmaker from 1953 to 1957. He then went to study at the newly created college for local museums in Weißenfels in the Halle district , where he received training as a museum until 1960. After successfully completing his degree, Joachim Schardin received a position at the Mathematisch-Physikalischer Salon in Dresden . He later completed a distance learning course to become a historian at the Humboldt University in Berlin . Most recently he was the deputy director of the Mathematical-Physical Salon and head of the clock collection there.

According to the obituary of Klaus Schillinger in the Sächsische Heimatbl Blätter from 1998, he had developed into an internationally recognized specialist in historical clocks and the history of timekeeping .

After a short, serious illness, Joachim Schardin died at the age of 62.

His special merits include a. the reconstruction of the clock of the Semperoper in Dresden or the restoration of various historical sundials .
