The railway line Grzmiąca – Kostrzyn (Gramenz – Küstrin) is a branch line of the Polish State Railways (PKP), which runs in an east-west direction in the West Pomeranian and Lebus Voivodeships . In 2009 it was only in operation on around a fifth.

course

The railway line Grzmiąca – Kostrzyn starts in the lower valley of the Parsęta (Persante) in the east of the West Pomeranian Voivodeship, which it runs through southwest until it ends in the extreme northeast of the Lubusz an der Oder Voivodeship .

The 240-kilometer route connects the towns of Połczyn-Zdrój (Bad Polzin) , Drawsko Pomorskie (Dramburg) , Kalisz Pomorski (Kallies) , Choszczno (Arnswalde) , Myślibórz (Soldin) , Dębno (Neudamm) , all of which are in the Pomeranian region Lake District lie with the Oder town of Kostrzyn nad Odrą (Küstrin) on today's Polish-German border. Before 1945 this railway line created the connection between the province of Pomerania and East Brandenburg .

Before 1945, the districts of Neustettin , Belgard , Dramburg , Arnswalde , Soldin and Königsberg (Neumark) were part of its course . Their areas correspond to today's Polish districts of Szczecinek (Neustettin) , Świdwin (Schivelbein) , Drawsko Pomorskie (Dramburg) , Choszczno (Arnswalde) , Myślibórz (Soldin) and Gorzów Wielkopolski ( Landsberg (Warthe) ).

history

Today's route follows the rules of the Polish State Railways. Until 1945, the line from the Deutsche Reichsbahn (DR) was divided into other routes, which are now combined in small sections to form the entire Grzmiąca − Kostrzyn route.

On November 15, 1878 Gramenz (Grzmiąca) was connected to their network by the Prussian Eastern Railway with the construction of the railway line from Schneidemühl (Piła) via Neustettin (Szczecinek) to Kolberg (Kołobrzeg) .

After another line had been built in 1896 from Gramenz to Bublitz to the northeast - for later continuation to Pollnow (Polanów) and Zollbrück (Korzybie)), a railway line was built in 1903 to the southwest via Bärwalde (Barwice) and Bad Polzin (Połczyn-Zdrój) to Falkenburg (Złocieniec).

Here it met the railway line from Kallies (Kalisz Pomorski), which ended in Falkenburg and was laid out in 1900.

At that time, Kallies was already an important railway junction, since 1888 it had been on the railway line from Kallies to Schneidemühl , which was followed by the extension from Kallies to Stolzenhagen in 1895. In the same year the line from Kallies to Arnswalde (Choszczno) was built as part of today's railway line from Grzmiąca to Kostrzyn. Arnswalde had been connected to the Stargard-Posen Railway Company with the route from Stettin to Posen since 1847 .

In 1898, the Stargard-Cüstriner Railway Company opened the line from Arnswalde to Berlinchen (Barlinek). This railway company had already put its main line from Soldin to Glasow into operation in 1882, and a year later the Glasow-Berlinicher railway company followed with the route from Glasow to Berlinchen. It was again the Stargard-Cüstriner Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft, which a year earlier had trains run from Pyritz (Pyrzyce) to Küstrin via Soldin. In the Oderstadt the railway met the Prussian Eastern Railway with the line Berlin – Küstrin – Dirschau – Königsberg (Prussia) (since 1857) and that from Breslau to Stettin (since 1875/76).

The construction of the individual sections of today's total railway line Grzmiąca – Kostrzyn took place between 1882 and 1903.

In the 1990s, the PKP began to shut down route sections or to restrict them for traffic. The first section was the Połczyn-Zdrój (Bad Polzin) - Złocieniec (Falkenburg) and Choszczno (Arnswalde) - Głazów (Glasow) sections in 1991. The remaining sections followed until 2010, with the exception of three lines with a total of 48.383 kilometers:

  • Kalisz Pomorski Miasto – Kalisz Pomorskie (2.716 km) only passenger traffic,
  • Złocieniec – Mirosławiec (23.232 km) and Barnówko – Kostrzyn (22.435 km), both only freight traffic.

The maximum speed on these routes is 40 km / h for passenger and 30 km / h for freight.
