Toporzyk ( German  Bramstädt ) is a village in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship in Poland with about 200 inhabitants. It is located in the powiat Świdwiński ( Schivelbein district ) and belongs to the rural municipality Połczyn-Zdrój (Bad Polzin) .

Geographical location

Toporzyk is nine kilometers south of Połczyn-Zdrój and can be reached via the main road 173 to Drawsko Pomorskie (Dramburg) . The village was until 1991 a railway station on the route Połczyn-Zdrój - Zlocieniec (Falkenburg) on the edge of Drawski Landscape Park (Landscape Park Dramburg).

Surname

The earlier name Bramstädt suggests a settlement of German origin: the ending - "stadt" (like "-stadt", "-stedt" etc. = "place") proves this. The place received the addition "Bram-" because of the abundant blackberry, which was popularly called "brom" or "bram".

history

Until 1945, Bramstädt was right on the border with the Neustettin district in New Markia (now in Polish: Szczecinek ). The Vorwerke Althütten (Dobino) , Klockow (Kłokowo) and Rohberg belonged to the community.

In 1591 Bramstädt was named in the church register as "a new village built in the Polziner Busch a short time ago". The von Manteuffel from Polzin and Arnhausen ( Lipie ) are named as feudal lords , as well as Caspar Otto von Glasenapp from Gramenz (Grzmiąca). In the following years the possessions of von Puttkamer and von Lossow are mentioned.

In the municipality of Bramstädt, which comprises 1500 hectares of land, there were 712 inhabitants in 196 households in 1939. The number had doubled after 1843 (294 inhabitants) and 1855 (378). Bramstädt was a separate administrative district with a registry office and a police station. The district court district was Bad Polzin. Until 1945 Bramstädt belonged to the Belgard (Persante) ( Białogard ) district. The last officials before 1945 were Mayor Gustav Cornell, Mayor Georg Klix and registrar Gerhard Ludwig. The police duties were carried out until the end by Oberlandjäger Iwanski.

After the invasion of the Red Army in March 1945, Bramstädt came to Poland as a result of the Second World War . The expulsion of the German population began at the end of 1945 . People were resettled here from the eastern Polish district of Tarnopol . The village belonged to Połczyn-Zdrój until 1954 , was temporarily an independent municipality, but then merged again with Połczyn-Zdrój, whose district Toporzyk it is today and thus belongs to the newly formed powiat Świdwiński .

Parish

Parish

The parish Bramstädt only existed until the 17th century. When the village went up in fire during the Polish War , Bramstädt and Reinfeld (now in Polish: Bierzwnica ) merged to form a parish. It was not until 1898 that Bramstädt was separated from Reinfeld again and raised to an independent parish.

The parish of Bramstädt included the places Althütten ( Dobino ) and Klockow ( Kłokowo ) and - from the district of Neustettin - the villages of Neu Liepenfier ( Lipno ), Schmalzenthin ( Smołdzięcino ) and Zemmin ( Cieminko ). In 1940 there were 1298 parishioners registered.

Today Toporzyk belongs to the parish Koszalin (Köslin) in the diocese of Pomerania-Greater Poland of the Polish Evangelical-Augsburg (Lutheran) Church .

Parish church

The church, a handsome solid brick building with a tall, slender tower, was built around 1860 using elements of neo-Gothic and neo-Romanesque styles . Visible from afar, it is elevated on Dorfstrasse and offers space for 600 people. The three steel bells did not need to be delivered during the war. Church and rectory, both renovated several times in the meantime, are now owned by the Roman Catholic Church in Poland. On October 1, 1946, the church was consecrated under the patronage of the Assumption of Mary and in 1957 a Catholic parish Toporzyk was founded.

Pastor

After the Bramstädt parish became independent again in 1898:

  • Pastor Paul Kamecke, 1898–1936, and
  • Pastor Werner Griesbach, 1936–1945

school

As early as 1862 there was a two-class school in Bramstädt, and in 1913 an additional classroom was set up. The community recently had two schools: the village school in Bramstädt with one teacher and the Bramstädt-Abbau and Althütten school with two teachers.

In 1928 35 boys and 39 girls were educated. The name of the last teacher before 1945 was Kruger.

In 1962 a new school building was built in Toporzyk, and the village became the main school in the surrounding areas.
