Caspar Otto von Glasenapp
Caspar Otto von Glasenapp (born June 25, 1664 at Gut Wurchow , Neustettin district ; † August 7, 1747 in Berlin ) was a Prussian officer , most recently Field Marshal General .
family
He came from the well-known noble family von Glasenapp , who lived in Pomerania . His parents were the Brandenburg District Administrator Kaspar Otto von Glasenapp († January 5, 1664 in Kolberg) and his wife Ernestina von Zitzewitz . His brother was Major General Erdmann von Glasenapp . He married Anna Margarete von Zastrow from the Beerwalde family on February 14, 1700 in Köslin . The marriage remained childless. His brothers Paul Casimir, Heinrich Christoph and Paul Wedig became heirs.
Military background
After joining the Guard in 1679 , he became ensign in the “Churfürstlichen Leibregiment” (“No. 1”) in 1683 and second lieutenant in 1687 . On September 9, 1692 he was appointed staff captain, on July 15, 1695 as captain and company commander of the regiment (now "Fusilier Guard" ). He took part with the regiment in the fighting in Hungary, on the Rhine and in Brabant .
Glasenapp was born on November 10 1705 for Major transported, on December 6, 1709 to lieutenant colonel and on May 11, 1713 Colonel and commander of the regiment, now "Wartensleben walk" . On October 17, 1723 he became major general and head of his regiment, which was now called "Regiment Glasenapp on foot", colloquially "Glasenapsche Regiment".
On February 10, 1729 Glasenapp was appointed commander of Berlin . He consistently implemented the detailed orders of King Friedrich Wilhelm I to curb begging and to keep the streets of Berlin clean. His measures to enforce order and discipline were feared in the city. On May 12, 1732 he became lieutenant general , on December 1, 1735 governor of Berlin , but he also remained head of the regiment . Glasenapp became prelate of the High Monastery of Cammin in Pomerania on January 1, 1737, General of the Infantry on June 29, 1740. He was appointed General Field Marshal with a patent from June 4, 1741. On July 21, 1742, Glasenapp was retired from active military service , but he remained governor of Berlin and retained the " honors with the army as field marshal for life ".
Glasenapp was buried in the Berlin garrison church in 1747 .
