Gaworkowo ( German  Gauerkow ) is a village in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship in Poland . It is located in the powiat Świdwiński (Schivelbein) and belongs to the urban and rural municipality Połczyn-Zdrój ( Bad Polzin ).

Geographical location

Gaworkowo is six kilometers south of Połczyn-Zdrój on the national road No. 163 to Czaplinek (temple castle) . The local border is also the border to Powiat Szczecinecki (district Neustettin) in the northern area of Drawski Park Krajobrazowy (landscape protection park Dramburg).

Surname

Gauerkow used to be called Gurkow . Both names can be traced back to the Slavic word "Gora" (= mountain), derived from the location of the place on the Polziner plateau. In the 17th century the property was still called Chartow .

history

1628 Gerd von Manteuffel in Poplow (now Polish: Popielewo ) is named as the landowner . The estate was later transferred to the Manteuffels in Hohenwardin ( Wardyń Górny ) until it was parceled out in 1842 and cleared as a manor.

While 189 inhabitants lived in Gauerkow in 1867, there were only 153 in 1939. There were 22 farms with a size between five and 20 hectares and two larger farms.

Until 1945 Gauerkow was in the district of Belgard (Persante) . The community belonged to the administrative and civil registry district of Bramstädt . The last incumbents were Georg Klix or Gerhard Ludwig and Gustav Cornell . Oberlandjäger Iwanski from Bramstädt took on the police duties. The district court district was Bad Polzin.

When the Red Army marched in , numerous buildings were destroyed. The German population was expelled until 1946 . Gauerkow came to Poland as Gaworkowo and is now part of the urban and rural municipality Połczyn-Zdrój.

church

Gauerkow was looked after by the parish of the Marienkirche in Bad Polzin . Thus, it belonged to the church district Belgard of the ecclesiastical province of Pomerania in the Evangelical Church of the Old Prussian Union .

Today Gaworkowo is in the parish Koszalin (Köslin) in the diocese of Pomerania-Greater Poland of the Evangelical-Augsburg Church in Poland .

school

Until 1841, the Gauerkow children went to school in Neu Liepenfier in the Neustettin district . The old field name "Knüppelbusch" reminded of this until 1945: the path leading through the forest and quarry was secured with clubs.

The newly built school building now serves as a kindergarten. A new schoolhouse was built.
