Ogrodno ( German  Kavelsberg ) is a village in the Polish West Pomeranian Voivodeship . It belongs to the municipality of Połczyn-Zdrój (Bad Polzin) in the powiat Świdwiński (Schivelbein) .

Geographical location

Ogrodno is located in the northern area of Drawski Park Krajobrazowy (Dramburg Landscape Protection Park ) and borders on the landscape of the "five lakes area". The distance to Połczyn-Zdrój (Bad Polzin) is five kilometers on a side road via Ogartówko (Neu Jagertow) . In Połczyn-Zdrój, the next train station on the line Świdwin (Schivelbein) - Grzmiąca (Gramenz) was located until the line was closed .

Place name

The name Kavelsberg is said to be derived from the Kaveln = strip of land, parcels of land on the mountain, although it is unclear whether Kavel is a German or a Wendish word. The Wendish origin is likely, because Kawel means piece, share or lot ( caweln = raffle).

history

Kavelsberg used to be part of the Jagertow Manor (Polish: Ogartowo). Between 1831 and 1835 the manor owner Bauck leased 444 acres of bush in individual parcels and thereby founded the Gavelsberg colony . In 1906 it becomes an independent municipality under the name Kavelsberg .

In 1939 there were 207 inhabitants in 49 households in the 460.4 hectare community. There were 29 large to medium-sized farms that employed 199 people.

Until 1945 Kavelsberg belonged with the communities Brutzen (Brusno) and (Groß-) Poplow (Popielewo) to the administrative and civil registry district (Groß-) Poplow in the district of Belgard (Persante) . The competent local court was in Bad Polzin . Police violence lay with the Oberlandjäger in Bramstädt (Toporzyk).

On March 3, 1945, Russian troops , coming from Gross Poplow , penetrated Kavelsberg. Four farms and the school were immediately set on fire. The local population was displaced . Kavelsberg came into Polish hands and became part of Gmina Połczyn-Zdrój in the powiat Świdwiński under the name Ogrodno .

church

Kavelsberg did not have its own church. The place of worship was the Marienkirche in Bad Polzin , to whose parish the village belonged. It was in the parish of Belgard in the church province of Pomerania of the Protestant Church of the Old Prussian Union . Pastor Hans Paust was the last German clergyman.

Today Ogrodno belongs to the parish Koszalin (Köslin) in the diocese of Pomerania-Greater Poland of the Evangelical-Augsburg Church in Poland .

school

The Kavelsberger school house was built in 1894 from red brick. A teacher's apartment was integrated into the building. In 1928 16 boys and 33 girls attended school here. On March 3, 1945, the schoolhouse was set on fire by Russian soldiers, and the local history kept by the local teachers was also destroyed.
