Zagórze ( German Sager, Belgard district ) is a village in the Polish West Pomeranian Voivodeship . It belongs to the rural community ( gmina wiejska ) Białogard (rural community Belgard ) in the powiat Białogardzki .

Geographical location

Zagórze is located twelve kilometers southwest of Białogard in a beautiful landscape between mountains and forests. The northern border of the municipality forms the Pokrzywnica ( crooked water ). In the northwest of the village is the 63 meter high Garnkowa Góre ( Polsberg ).

Surname

The name on the Slavic “Sa-gora” = “behind the mountain” is derived from its scenic location.

Local history

In 1628 Sager is mentioned in a document as a Podewils fief. Later the place also belonged to the von Platow family . It was not until 1794 that Friedrich Wilhelm von Podewils became the sole owner, but 50 years later he sold the place to Johann Ferdinand Ramthun for 50,000 thalers. The last owners from 1908 to 1945 were the von Holtzendorff family , who lived in nearby Podewils .

The Krumme Wasser in the north of Sager once formed the border to the Principality of Cammin , later also to the Kolberg-Körlin district . The post route from Köslin to the former Neo-Marche town of Schivelbein used to lead through Sager .

In 1867 Sager had 208 inhabitants, 25 residential houses and 21 farm buildings. In addition to agriculture, there was also fish farming - in the large ponds with carp and crucian carp, and trout in the crooked water.

In 1928 the manor district and the municipality district were merged to form the rural municipality of Sager. In 1939 there were 177 inhabitants in 39 households in the 752.1 hectare community. Until 1945 Sager belonged to the district of Belgard (Persante) and together with Kamissow and Natztow formed the district of Kamissow. The place officially belonged to Rarfin , and the competent district court was that in Belgard.

The last German incumbents were the mayor Albert Schneider, the mayor Richard Schröter and the registrar Otto Elert. The police duties were regulated by Oberlandjäger Karl Bark from Podewils.

On March 3, 1945, Sager was occupied by Soviet troops . From autumn 1945 the German population was expelled . Sager came to Poland under the name Zagórze and became part of the rural community of Białogard.

church

Until 1945 Sager belonged to the parish Rarfin in the parish of Belgard (ecclesiastical province of Pomerania) of the Evangelical Church of the Old Prussian Union . The church patronage on the part of Sagers was exercised by the manor owners von Holtzendorff. In 1940 a total of 1412 parishioners belonged to the parish of Rarfin, who were last looked after by Pastor Günther-Gerhard Henning.

school

The school principals Mahnke, Kirchhoff, Ruhmke and - most recently - Leschke taught at the Sager School, built in 1867.
