Volkmar von Arnim
Volkmar Otto Erdmann von Arnim (born November 7, 1847 in Sager , Belgard district , † September 10, 1923 in Kiel ) was a German admiral .
Life
origin
His grandfather and father were Pomeranian landowners on Moitzelfitz near Kolberg . The mother was born von Lettow-Vorbeck , from the manor Varchminshagen near Köslin .
Career
On June 15, 1863, Arnim joined the Prussian Navy . Arnim received his first training as a midshipman on the ships Niobe , Nymphe and Arcona and took part in the battle near Rügen in the Danish War . In the war year 1870/71 he was given command of a French gunboat on the Seine . In 1875 he was promoted to lieutenant captain. In 1889 he was appointed commander of the Imperial Yacht Hohenzollern . In the fall of 1899 he was given the responsibility of inspecting the naval education system. In this position he was promoted to vice admiral in 1901 and admiral in 1905. On September 17, 1907 Armin was to disposition while à la suite made of Seeoffizierskorps.
After his departure he took over the management of the Imperial Yacht Club in Kiel.
family
Arnim was married to the daughter of the Prussian major general von Nordeck. The marriage had five children. The eldest son Bernd von Arnim died in February 1917 during the First World War as the commander of the torpedo boat G 42 . The youngest son died in a plane crash in 1927. One daughter was married to the Ministerialrat Röbbelen in the Ministry of Economic Affairs, the other to a relative, the later Admiral Willy von Nordeck (1888-1956).
