Willy von Nordeck (born January 26, 1888 in Brandenburg an der Havel , † October 12, 1956 in Berlin-Zehlendorf ) was a German naval officer , most recently in the rank of admiral in the Navy .

Career

Imperial Navy and First World War

Nordeck appeared as on April 1, 1903 midshipman in the Imperial Navy one. He completed basic training and then basic training by March 21, 1904 on the covered corvette SMS Moltke used as a training ship . Then he came for further training from March 22, 1904 at the naval school in Kiel . On April 15, 1904, he was appointed ensign at sea . He then went to Shanghai from October 12 to November 28, 1905 on the armored cruiser SMS Prinz Heinrich . Imperial Navy

On December 3, 1919, Nordeck was released from captivity and put to use by the chief of the Baltic Sea naval station . From January 1920 he then served as a company commander in the 3rd Coast Defense Battalion and was then made available to the Admiralty at the Navy Peace Commission from March 10, 1920 . He was also a member of the International Border Commission for Schleswig as an admiralty staff officer . On May 19, 1921, Nordeck switched to the Hannover liner , on which he again served as a watch officer. From October 1, 1921, Nordeck was briefly advisor to the Navy Depot Inspection and from October 29, 1921 advisor to the Navy Artillery Inspection. During this period of service he was promoted to Corvette Captain on January 1, 1923 . This was followed by two further assignments as Admiral Staff Officer: first from October 15, 1923 on the staff of the Commander of the Light Naval Forces in the North Sea and then from April 1, 1925 as 1st Admiral Staff Officer on the staff of the Commander of the Naval Forces in the North Sea. Subsequently, from October 12, 1926, Nordeck worked as an advisor to the naval officer personnel department of the naval management and was promoted to frigate captain on January 1, 1929 during this service . On October 9, 1929, Nordeck was appointed commander of the 2nd battalion of the ship cadre division of the Baltic Sea, at the same time he was the senior garrison service at Stralsund . After that, Nordeck took over as commander of the Hessen liner from October 4th 1930 , shortly before that he had been promoted to sea captain on October 1st . From October 5, 1932, he took over as head of the central department of the Wilhelmshaven naval shipyard , in this role he was promoted to rear admiral on April 1, 1935 .

Navy

After the renaming of the Reichsmarine to the Kriegsmarine on June 1, 1935, Nordeck became chief shipyard director of the Wilhelmshaven naval shipyard on September 30, 1935. He held this post until June 22, 1942. In the meantime he was promoted twice: on October 1, 1937 to Vice Admiral and on January 1, 1940 to Admiral. Subsequently, on June 23, 1942, he was made available to the Chief of the Navy. From September 1, 1942, Nordeck was retired and made available to the Navy. Nordeck was one of the admirals who, with the change in leadership of the Navy from Erich Raeder to Karl Dönitz on January 30, 1943, were also looking forward to the end of their careers. He therefore resigned from naval service on May 31, 1943.
