geography

Viry-Noureuil is about 35 kilometers west-northwest of Laon . The Oise forms the southern municipal boundary. Viry-Noureuil is surrounded by the neighboring communities Frières-Faillouël in the north, Tergnier in the east and north-east, Condren in the east, Sinceny in the south, Chauny in the west and south-west and Villequier-Aumont in the north-west.

The former route nationale 32 (today's D1032) runs through the municipality .
