It belongs to the Arrondissement of Laon , the canton of Laon-1 ( Anizy-le-Château until 2015 ) and the Picardie des Châteaux municipal association .

The community is located around 130 kilometers north of the capital Paris . Royaucourt-et-Chailvet is made up of the neighboring municipalities of Chaillevois in the west, Montbavin in the northwest, Bourguignon-sous-Montbavin in the northeast, Vaucelles-et-Beffecourt in the east, Urcel in the southeast and the municipality of Chavignon, which belongs to the canton of Fère-en-Tardenois , in the south surround.
