In the southeast, an army barracks located with an attached 622-hectare training area of the French army , the Camp de Sissone that exists since 1896th On the edge of the military training area there were the two military airfields Sissone and La Selve during the two world wars.
The Aerodrome Sissone , located immediately to the east of the barracks, was used by the French military before the First World War and the German air force used the area from July 1917 to October 1918 mainly as a base for various fighter squadrons ("Jasta").
The Aerodrome La Selve was located on the eastern edge of the practice area just west of the eponymous location. This airfield was also used by German Jastas in the last years of the First World War. During the Second World War , the German air force used the airfield towards the end of the western campaign in May / June 1940. The III. Group of Jagdgeschwader 53 (III./JG 53) lay here for three weeks, reinforced for a few days in mid-June by III. Jagdgeschwader 52 group (III./JG 52), both Bf 109E units. It was no longer used after the start of the Allied invasion of Normandy in June 1944.
Artillery and marine regiments are now stationed in the barracks southeast of the town center, and in 2006/2007 the Center d'entraînement aux actions en zone urbaine (CENZUB) was set up on the site , where training for urban warfare takes place.
