Chermizy-Ailles is a French municipality with 106 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Aisne in the region of Hauts-de-France (before 2016 Picardy ). It belongs to the arrondissement of Laon and the canton of Guignicourt (until 2015 canton of Craonne ).

Chermizy-Ailles is located in the eastern center of the Aisne department.
The municipality is about 13 km southeast of the prefecture of Laon , 113 km southeast of the regional capital Amiens , 32 km northwest of Reims and 121 km northeast of the capital Paris . Surrounded immediately Chermizy-Ailles of the neighboring communities Ployart-et-Vaurseine in the Northeast, Bouconville-Vauclair in the east, Oulches-la-Vallée-Foulon and Paissy in the south, Neuville-sur-Ailette in the northwest as well as in the canton of Laon-2 located communities Cerny-en-Laonnois in the west, Martigny-Courpierre and Bièvres in the north.
history
During the First World War , the area was completely occupied by the German army and served as a second line of defense behind the ridge of the Chemin des Dames until the Germans withdrew behind the Ailette in October 1917 . At the end of the First World War, the area around the Chemin des Dames was almost completely destroyed. In 1923 the village of Chermizy merged with the nearby and completely destroyed village of Ailles to form the municipality of Chermizy-Ailles. The former village of Ailles is in the Red Zone .
