Vorges is a French municipality with 370 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Aisne in the region of Hauts-de-France (before 2016 Picardy ). It belongs to the arrondissement of Laon and the canton of Laon-2 (until 2015 Laon-Sud ).

The place is on the watershed of the Ailette at the foot of a limestone plateau that separates Laon from Soissons . Vorges is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Laon in the north, Bruyères-et-Montbérault in the east and south, and Presles-et-Thierny in the west.

history

The previous is mentioned in the poems of Adalbero of Laon in the tenth century . In his song against Landry de Nevers or Rythmus satiricus , Vorges is mentioned as a villa that served as a rural residence for the bishops of Laon. In the twelfth century, the parish of Vorges emancipated itself with the support of King Ludwig VI. from the guardianship of the bishops. Together with some neighboring parishes, Vorges received a municipal deed on April 20, 1129. This document was confirmed by Philip II in 1186 .

95% of Vorges was destroyed during the First World War .
