The Museum of Decorative Art and Design ( Latvian Dekoratīvās mākslas un dizaina muzejs ) a museum in the Latvian capital Riga .

It is located in Riga's old town on the north side of Scharrenstrasse ( Skārņu iela ) at Scharrenstrasse 10.

Equipment and history

The museum was opened on July 6, 1989 in the premises of St. George's Church .

In addition to design collections, the museum's collection includes textile art , ceramics and porcelain, metal art , leather art , wood art and glass art . The exhibits cover the period since the end of the 19th century. The museum has the largest collection of works from the early days of Latvian Modernism , in particular by artists such as Romans Suta , Aleksandra Beļcova , Sigismunds Vidbergs and the Baltars porcelain workshop.

In addition to a permanent exhibition, changing exhibitions are also shown. There are also creative workshops for visitors.
