Chavignon is a commune with 818 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Aisne in the region of Hauts-de-France (former Region: Picardie ). The municipality belongs to the Arrondissement of Soissons and is part of the canton of Fère-en-Tardenois and the communal association Communauté de communes du Val de l'Aisne . She was awarded the Croix de guerre award from 1914 to 1918. The inhabitants are known as Chavignonnais (es) .

The municipality with the districts Bruyères and Cité Gilbert as well as the residential areas Les Vallons, Les Carrivaux, La Tuilerie, La Fontaine Dubois, Many, Ferme d'Orme and La Malmaison stretches from the Ardon river in the north to the Chemin des Dames in the south. The Route nationale 2 , which has been developed as an expressway and connects Soissons with Laon , and the Canal de l'Oise à l'Aisne run through them .

In the south of the municipality is the Fort de la Malmaison with fortifications from the beginning of the 20th century and a German war cemetery with 11,808 fallen from the Second World War . Chavignon borders on the neighboring communities of Merlieux-et-Fouquerolles , Chaillevois and Royaucourt-et-Chailvet in the north, Urcel in the east, Pargny-Filain in the southeast, Aizy-Jouy in the south and Vaudesson in the west.
