Margival is a commune of 370 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Aisne in the region of Hauts-de-France (former Region: Picardie ). The municipality belongs to the Arrondissement of Soissons and is part of the canton of Fère-en-Tardenois and the communal association Communauté de communes du Val de l'Aisne . The municipality was awarded the Croix de guerre award from 1914 to 1918.
geography
The municipality, 10 km northeast of Soissons , with the districts of Montgarny, Le Moulin and Le Pont Rouge, is touched in the east by Route nationale 2 and is a stop on the La Plaine – Hirson railway line . Neighboring communities are Neuville-sur-Margival in the north, Laffaux and Nanteuil-la-Fosse in the east, Vregny and Crouy in the south and Vuillery and Terny-Sorny in the west.
history
During the First World War the place was the scene of fighting. During the Second World War , the Führer Headquarters Wolfsschlucht 2 was built in the forest , which was also used for military purposes after the war. For this purpose, the residents of Margival were resettled in 1944.
