Sancy-les-Cheminots is a commune of 100 people (as of January 1, 2017) in the department of Aisne in the region of Hauts-de-France (former Region: Picardie ). The municipality belongs to the Arrondissement of Soissons and is part of the canton of Fère-en-Tardenois and the communal association Communauté de communes du Val de l'Aisne . The municipality is the bearer of the Croix de guerre 1914-1918.

geography

The municipality northeast of Soissons , with the district Mennejean, is located south of Route nationale 2 , which connects Soissons with Laon . Neighboring municipalities are Allemant and Vaudesson in the north, Aizy-Jouy in the east, Celles-sur-Aisne in the south and Nanteuil-la-Fosse in the west.

history

During the First World War , the community was conquered by troops of the German Empire at the end of October 1914 during the fighting for the Chemin des Dames . During the war, the place was completely destroyed and was in the rouge zone (red zone). Reconstruction began with support from railroad workers in the 1920s; the Jardin du souvenir (Garden of Remembrance) was built. The reconstructed church was consecrated in 1928. Since 1929 the municipality has had the suffix "les Cheminots" (the railway workers).
