location
Chassemy is located 15 kilometers east of Soissons and around 100 km northeast of the French capital Paris. In the north the Aisne flows past the municipality, in the south the Route Nationale 31 leads along.
etymology
The name Chassemy comes from the older name Cucusma, which translates as community of cuckoo singing .

Vailly-sur-Aisne / Condé-sur-Aisne airfield
During both world wars there was a German field airfield in the northwest of Chassemys, east of the D531 and partly in the Condés area , which was used in the summer of 1918 and summer 1944.
