Muret-et-Crouttes is a commune with 119 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Aisne in the region of Hauts-de-France (former Region: Picardie ). The municipality belongs to the arrondissement of Soissons and is part of the canton of Villers-Cotterêts .

The municipality on the little river Crise , which flows into the Aisne , consists of the two eponymous districts and Moulin de Muret , is located around twelve kilometers (road distance) south-southeast of Soissons and 34 kilometers north of Château-Thierry . Neighboring municipalities are Nampteuil-sous-Muret in the north, Maast-et-Violaine in the east, Arcy-Sainte-Restitue in the south-east, Launoy in the south and Droizy in the south-west and west, and Chacrise in the north-west.

The combined place name should mean “small wall” and be derived from the Latin “crypta” (cave). A settlement from the La Tène period was excavated in the municipality .
