War memorial in Thalheim

The Zschepkau war memorial is a listed war memorial in the Zschepkau district of the city of Bitterfeld-Wolfen in Saxony-Anhalt . In the local register of monuments it is recorded as a monument with registration number 094 95447 .

General

The war memorial in Zschepkau is located on Dorfstrasse in a small square in front of house number 11. The design of the war memorial is rather untypical as it is more reminiscent of a planted fountain. A stele rises in the middle , crowned by a top with a frieze and a sphere as a conclusion. There are several inscriptions in the stele, the two outer ones giving the names of the fallen. It was built in 1920 for the fallen soldiers of the First World War . The design of the monument was started by master stonemason Hagemeister from Löberitz and completed by Hernn Wiesner from Zörbig . On the original war memorial there was an iron cross instead of the ball . This was damaged in an American bombing raid in 1945 and replaced by a bullet in 1956. The last restoration took place in 1999.
