Vailly-sur-Aisne is about 20 kilometers east of Soissons on the River Aisne . Vailly-sur-Aisne is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Aizy-Jouy in the north, Ostel in the northeast, Chavonne in the east, Presles-et-Boves in the south and southeast, Chassemy in the southwest and Celles-sur-Aisne in the west.

The former route nationale 325 (today's D925) leads through the municipality .
