Horst Peter (born April 24, 1946 in Leipzig ) is a former volleyball player from the GDR .

Peter started at SC Rotation Leipzig and from 1963 played for the successor club SC Leipzig . The 1.85 m tall player won the GDR championship title in 1964, 1965 and from 1967 to 1972.

From 1965 he played in the GDR national team and took 4th place at the 1966 World Cup and the 1967 European Championship . In 1968 Horst Peter took part in the Olympic Games in Mexico and again achieved fourth place. The GDR selection achieved its greatest success at the 1970 World Cup , when the title was won in Bulgaria. After another fourth place at the European Championships in 1971 , the GDR team reached the final at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich and received the silver medal after the final defeat against the Japanese team .

Horst Peter was a trained locksmith and later became a railway technology engineer.
