1966 men's volleyball world championship

The 1966 men's volleyball world championship took place in Czechoslovakia from August 30th to September 11th . The hosts won the title for the second time. The games were played in Prague , Nitra , České Budějovice , Jihlava and Pardubice .

mode

The 22 participants played in the preliminary round in two groups of five and two groups of six. The two best teams in each group determined the world champion in the final group, with the results of the direct duels being carried over to the final round. The third and fourth group played for positions nine to sixteen, the remaining teams for positions 17 to 22. The new world champion and the second and third placed qualified for the 1968 Olympic Games .
