1956 Men's Volleyball World Championship

The 1956 men's volleyball world championship took place in Paris from August 30th to September 12th . The Czechoslovakia won the title for the first time. The number of participants rose to 24 teams, including the two German national teams of the Federal Republic and the GDR .

The 24 participants played in the preliminary round in four groups of three and six groups of two. The group winners of the preliminary round determined the world champion in the final group. The runners-up played for places eleven to twenty, the remaining teams for ranks 21 to 24.
