Women's volleyball world championship 1962

The 1962 Women's Volleyball World Cup took place in the Soviet Union from October 13th to 25th . Japan won the title for the first time. The games were played in Moscow , Kiev and Leningrad .

mode

The fourteen participants played in the first round in two groups of four and two groups of three. The two best teams from each group made it to the final group with eight teams. The results were taken against the direct competitors. The winner of this group became the new world champion. The other participants played in a group of six for positions nine to fourteen.

Balance of the German teams

The women of the Federal Republic did not miss the final group with three 0-3 defeats in Group D against the Soviet Union, Romania and the Netherlands. In the group of six, they took penultimate place ahead of Austria. The GDR team, on the other hand, qualified as second in the group for the final group and came in seventh there.
