Women's volleyball world championship 1970

The 1970 Women's Volleyball World Championship took place in Bulgaria from September 22nd to October 2nd . The Soviet Union won the title for the fourth time. The games were played in Varna , Burgas , Sevlievo and Sofia .

mode

The sixteen participants played in four groups of four in the first round. The two best teams from each group made it to the final group with eight teams. The results were taken against the direct competitors. The winner of this group became the new world champion. The other participants played in a second group of eight for positions nine to sixteen.

qualification

Bulgaria was set to host as were the four participants in the last World Cup . In addition, the six best teams from the 1967 European Championship as well as the champions from NORCECA and from South America and two representatives from Asia qualified . The last two starting places were awarded in a qualification tournament with five participants.
