Missy-sur-Aisne is a commune of 640 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Aisne in the region of Hauts-de-France (former Region: Picardie ). The municipality belongs to the Arrondissement of Soissons and is part of the canton of Fère-en-Tardenois and the communal association Communauté de communes du Val de l'Aisne .

geography

The municipality with the districts of Les Carreux, Les Cardots, Le Port and La Biza is located around 11.5 km east of Soissons on the D925 departmental road, which follows the northern bank of the Aisne . The municipality lies entirely on the right bank of the Aisne. A bridge creates the connection with Sermoise . Neighboring municipalities are Chivres-Val in the north, Condé-sur-Aisne in the east, Sermoise and Venizel in the south and Bucy-le-Long in the west.

history

Finds prove a settlement as early as Gallo-Roman times. Early evidence refers to the place as Minciacum. The place is associated with St. Radegundis , the titular saint of the church, who is said to have fled here in the 6th century and whose relic was brought to Missy in 1428. In 1792 a freedom tree was erected.
