Vierzy is a French municipality with 435 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the department of Aisne in the region of Hauts-de-France . It belongs to the arrondissement of Soissons and the canton of Villers-Cotterêts .

geography

Vierzy is about ten kilometers south-southwest of Soissons . Vierzy is surrounded by the neighboring communities Berzy-le-Sec in the north, Villemontoire in the east and northeast, Parcy-et-Tigny in the east and southeast, Saint-Rémy-Blanzy in the south and southeast, Villers-Hélon in the south, Longpont in the west as well Chaudun in the northwest.

history

On June 16, 1972, two trains collided in the Vierzy railway tunnel when the tunnel partially collapsed. This disaster resulted in 108 deaths and a large number of injuries.
